The current Security+ certification is not a generic "cyber" badge. CompTIA frames SY0-701 around five weighted domains, hands-on performance-based work, and a fixed exam window of 90 minutes. The voucher price is $425, the exam can include maximum of 90 questions, and the passing score is 750 on a scale of 100-900.
How many retakes are allowed?
CompTIA does not set a hard limit on the number of times you can take Security+. However, each attempt after the second failure requires a 14-day waiting period before the next attempt. Each attempt also requires a new voucher at the standard $425 price.
There is no cap on total attempts, but the cumulative cost and time investment make adequate preparation before the first attempt the better strategy for most candidates.
Using domain-level feedback between retakes
CompTIA's score report breaks performance down by domain. Security Operations accounts for 28% of the exam — a weakness there has the most impact on your total score. Focus your retake preparation on your lowest-scoring domains proportionate to their weight.
